Vext Labs is an artificial-intelligence research lab based in Maryland, USA, and the maker of Theron, the Hive, and the Stoa standard. It was founded by Annalea Layton. The thesis is simple: we built a mind, not a model.
Rather than a single monolithic model, Vext Labs builds Theron as a council of 31 specialist surfaces composed from 19 trained broad-domain LoRA adapters on one foundation. The bet is that a fleet of domain experts on one shared substrate, with verification and provenance built in, is a more economically sound and more auditable path than a single frontier model behind a wall.
Vext Labs publishes its benchmark methodology and audit trails, releases retired models under open licenses, and keeps the Stoa standard open and vendor-neutral. The contrast with frontier labs is intentional: they sell a model you trust; Theron is a mind you can audit.
Annalea Layton founded Vext Labs and created Theron and the Capability Injection Protocol.
